UPCOMING EVENTS AND DEADLINES

AUGUST

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20 - LOVIN' GIRL SCOUTS LUAU

- There is still space available for this event.  Leaders contact Jill for more information.

August 21st deadline for SPY KIDS ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD essay contest.

* Girls must be between the ages of 6-11 years
* Must write a 100 - 200 word essay on "What is the best way to spend quality time with your family."* All who submit an essay will be entered in a raffle to win the passes. Please be sure to include your name, email, phone number, and age.
* Essay submission deadline is Sunday, August 21, 2011.  Email essays to buzzbLC@gmail.com with the subject line "SPY KIDS ESSAY"


August 22nd deadline for MISS MEDIA PROGRAM audition video or article submissions.

* Girls must be 12 or older
* Training sessions will be held in September at the Girl Scout offices
* Tell "Why you love being a Girl Scout".  Submit video (maximum 10MB) or article by August 22nd to acutler@gsutah.org .

Miss Media Girl Scouts are the face and voice of Girl Scouts in Utah and there are many ways to be involved.
  * Write articles or submit photos for The Trooper
  * Represent GSU at community events
  * Interview on live TV or radio
  * Report on exciting Girl Scout events via social media
  * Produce Girl Scout videos or be a guest blogger

Wednesdays in September - "It's Your Planet - Love It" Journeys at Tonaquint Nature Center
                                                
         * These are great programs for Brownies and Daisies at very reasonable price.

September 9 - SERVICE UNIT BRIDGING CEREMONY  
                         7 p.m. at Tonaquint Nature Center


September 10 - TRAINING
                           St. George (location tba)
                          
                           * 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Take Action training for Juniors - Adults
                          
                           Lunch provided to volunteers who are registered for both morning
                           and afternoon sessions
                          
                           * afternoon (time tba) - choose Age Level Training or Money 101

September 24 - GIRL FEST - Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Kick-off Party
                          Sugarhouse Park, SLC
                          10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
                          Girls grades K-12
                          $5 for girls / adults free

*Notes from the Girl Scout Weekly*
- Girls 12 and older are encouraged to send an audition video to be considered for GSU's Miss Media program.  Send a video or article to acutler@gsu.org before Monday, August 22nd.
- Visit the Farmer's Market with your troop!
- Join the Lego League!  If you are interested in starting or joining a Lego League team, contact Dawn Miner.


*Community Education* 
There will be several opportunities for Scouts in the upcoming Community Education course schedule.  These include: Dutch Oven Cooking, Rocks, Jewelery Making and more!  Please check your mail or visit www.dixie.edu/ce for more information.

*Tonaquint Nature Center* 
The programs at the Tonaquint Nature Center have been a great success.  New programs are being added for the fall.  Visit http://www.sgcity.org/recreation/tnc/class.php  for more information.

*Camp* 
Camp information was given (This event happened August 11-12 and was a huge success!)

*Service Unit Bridging* 
The bridging ceremony will be September 9th from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Tonaquint Nature Center Amphitheatre.  Leaders please give a list of all girls who will be bridging to Jill.  Girls who are bridging should come to the event with their new uniforms.

*Team Jam* 
Team Jam is August 26 - 27.  Contact Christina for more information.
